No one wants to find themself somewhere in Glendora stranded by the side of the road because their car has overheated. That’s why it is so important to check your car’s coolant. What is coolant? And how do you check it? Our Service Team wants to help you keep your car running in top shape. So, we’re here to answer your questions. We’ve put together this handy guide on how to check the coolant level in your car. And if you’re wondering “What is coolant?” we’ll answer that, too.
Coolant is vital to keeping your car from overheating. So, what is coolant? Coolant, also known as antifreeze, is an ethylene glycol based chemical that when mixed with water will even out the internal temperature during extreme external temperatures. But, it does more than that. It prevents corrosion of various components as it is pumped through the engine as well.

You can get seriously burnt if the coolant sprays out, which it will if the engine is hot. Fortunately, you don’t have to remove the radiator cap just to check the fluid. This is how to check the coolant in your car the safe way:
Follow these steps to refill the coolant:
When the engine has been off for a while and has cooled down completely, remove the radiator cap; remember: never remove a radiator cap when an engine is still warm.
